THW abolish the practice of plea bargaining

A plea bargain is any agreement in a criminal case the prosecutor and defendant wherein the defendant agrees to plead guilty a particular charge in return for some concession from the prosecutor. This can involve defendants pleading guilty to less serious offences than those with which they are charged, or agree to plead guilty to the original charge in exchange for a more lenient sentence. The majority of cases in some jurisdictions, e.g. the United States, are settled out of court in plea bargains.

This House Would abolish trial by jury

THW abolish military courts and instead try soldiers in civilian courts

This house supports college education programs in prisons in the United States.

THBT criminal justice policy should be outsourced to technocrats instead of elected representatives (for example the parliament/government)

This House Would Let Prisoners Elect Their Wardens

THW prefer this system over a prison-based criminal justice system

A new criminal justice system has been suggested by experts. This system would replace prisons with house arrest and forced labour, the length of which would be based on the amount of compensation the criminal owes the victim or society at large. People who are deemed an immediate danger to society would still be incarcerated.

THW abolish prison as a punishment for non-violent crimes
