THS the National Health Insurance Bill

The National Health Insurance Bill purports to establish a National Health Insurance (NHI) Fund. Medical aid subscribers would pay the NHI Fund before their own premiums. The NHI would take over the payment of all medical services in SA, whether public or private. It would also take over the budgeting of provincial hospitals by provincial health departments. The National Health Insurance Fund would be run independently, but not privately, in the same way that the Road Accident Fund is currently run. (This bill has not yet been promulgated as law in South Africa)
